New website feature – “Ask Stuart”

Stuart Masson is The Car Expert at TheCarExpert.co.uk

26 August 2012:  TheCarExpert.co.uk is pleased to announce a brand new section of the website called “Ask Stuart”, for all the car-buying questions that have been bugging you but have not yet been covered by one of the regular blogs.  There is a huge amount of information to get your head around when buying a car, and it’s not easy to know which information is useful and relevant to you, and which is rubbish.

New “Ask Stuart” articles will be published regularly, and will generally be shorter than the normal blog articles.  They will address some of the specific questions that have come in from the website comments, Google search enquiries, or questions that Stuart has been asked while out and about with clients.

TheCarExpert.co.uk invites you to ask your questions

To start things off, we have a number of questions posted by people via a Google search which led them to The CarExpert.co.uk over the last few weeks.

If you have a question that you would like to see answered on TheCarExpert.co.uk, submit it below or e-mail info @ TheCarExpert.co.uk and Stuart will answer it for you.  It may be about technical features, car finance, fuel economy or anything else which comes to mind.  Of course if your question is really good, or if it requires a more detailed answer, it may even end up being featured in a longer blog article.

To see the questions that have been asked so far, head over to the “Ask Stuart” page now!

  1. Hi Peter,

Thanks for your message. I have e-mailed you my thoughts, but I’d suggest the 3.0 petrol XJ is a better car than the 2.7 diesel one overall. stuart

Hi Stuart, As a new subscriber I would welocome your opinion. 10 years ago we bought a new Jaguar S type 2.5 SE V6 and 137,000 miles later consider it to be one of the best cars we have owned although in the last year it has needed some money spending on it. For the last 2 months my wife and I have been discussing a replacement and were both agreed an a 2007- 2009 Jaguar XJ 2.7Tdvi Saloon with low mileage. Retirement means Jaguar new prices are out of reach. There are plenty out there to choose from, but talking to other Jag enthusaists, have sown the seeds of doubt in our minds. Our motoring habits have changed and we no longer do very long trips, quite the opposite, and we have heard of problems with the 2.7Tdvi with the DPF and EGR valves. I have also read your comments about this problem which seems to affect a lot of diesels. We now cover about 10,000 miles a year much of it in short trips and we have been recommended to try an XJ with either the 3 litre or 4.2 V8 petrol engine. Are the problems with diesels, such as we are seeking, overstated or understated, as we do not want to be landed with expensive repairs.Would very much welcome your opinion, Many thanks,Peter

  3. Hi Carole,

Thanks for your message. The Ford Mondeo estate should have very similar economy to the hatchback, assuming the same engine and gearbox. The estate may possibly be a couple of mpg worse off than the hatch, but it would probably not be anything really significant. Best wishes, stuart

Hi, a question about car servicing. I just bought a new BMW and the salesman told me I have to have it serviced by a BMW dealership to maintain the warranty. Is this correct as I have seen businesses claiming they can service my car without affecting the warranty?

    Thanks, Dave.
