    Stupid question, I know, but has anyone else had to get on the phone recently, in the annual traditional call to their car breakdown/recovery assistance provider, in an annoying bid to try to haggle the quote for renewal down? Inexplicably, every year, my quote (even with my ‘25% loyalty discount’ offer) appears to increase by at least £30+ for the same cover level. Pourquoi I ask myself? I hate to name names (AA, ahem), but do all providers award loyalty in this way? The only explanation is that ‘yes, our prices just go up annually’ – which seems pretty poor as a reason to me. I usually eventually get to a more reasonable price, but am I alone in thinking this is a bizarre way to retain custom particularly if I’ve not even used them in the past year and my mileage is low?
