There were regular thunks after the engine was turned off, and then when we set off again a loud thwang earlier followed by rattling when driving, all the noise from front left wheel arch. Fiddling around, there is a round disk lose inside the suspension spring, attached to a rubber sheath around the shock absorber. What if like to know is whether it’s safe to drive the hour home before taking it to the garage, or do we need to call out the rac in the morning to get us home? Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Hi Richard. I’m not a mechanic, but it sounds like something which needs to be put on a trailer rather than driven.
