Hi there. I’m living / working in Luxembourg not wanting to register my car here as I’m a temporary worker. Could be here for years or months and don’t want to go through the whole faff if i end up going back to the UK again soon. Anyway I couldn’t find *any* UK insurance company who would insure me living abroad (yes there’s extended EU cover but only if you’re registered home is the UK which it isn’t). So I used Clements insurance based in the US who specialise in expat insurance. So all well and good. However, I’ve just been informed that DVLA won’t allow a UK registered car to be driven on UK roads on a non-UK insurance policy.

I’m looking all over the place for this term but can’t find anything. Does anyone know if this is true and if so, any links to the information?

    Thanks in advance. J

News to me. It doesn’t specify this on the official website: https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-insurance

I’d speak to your insurer or the DVLA directly to see what they have to say.
