Hi we live in London. Recently we signed a contract to buy a car from an authorised Citroen dealer. We agreed for a certain price and we gave the deposit. Our bank paid a further 80%. Final payment when we will collect the car on the 30 of august. After 10 days they called saying that there is been an error and they forgot to add VAT on the price. They are now asking for a further 20% or they break the contract. Can they do that? The price of the car was clearly advertised on their website as well. Thanks for your help
Hi Sonia. If you have proof of the advertised price, you can hold the dealer to it. However, ultimately they can always find another way to break the contract and there’s not a lot you can really do.
if you complain to Citroën UK’s head office (I’m assuming this is a new car if you’re not picking it up until the end of the month), then they may give the dealer a swift kick up the backside and insist that the contract is honoured.
