I see where you are coming from, Andrew, but I think that the Chinese have the right model here. MGRs best seller was the MG ZR – a tarted up 1995 Rover 200 with origins from the 1980s Honda Concerto. This time ofcourse they have a car that isn’t based on a Rover or Honda, instead we have a new car. A new car that isn’t new anymore though, seeing as it’s been on sale in China for a couple of years. The one thing SAIC need to do is speed up the time it takes for the cars to be tuned for Europe. The MG6 went on sale here in 2011, but the Roewe 550 it was based on was on sale in China in 2008 I believe.

I agree that Autocar is not the mag it used to be. I miss the days pre 1997 when there was alot more content and opinion rather than rehashed press releases with the occasional drive story.

The worse articles I have seen were an article about the European Nissan Note, which included a spyshot of the Note with a camo’d front end. The article said that the Euro Note will have a ‘sleek new shape’ when infact all it has is a slightly different bumper. It was obvious from the spyshot that the shape was the same, and also obvious that Nissan would keep it the same for cost reasons. It was a non-article, it didn’t need printing.

Having said that, I vistited the offices and Matt Birt showed me around. They were all very welcoming apart from Hilton who had his head buried in his PC and looked quite scary. Shame as I would have liked to speak to him more than most. Holder and Cropley were on leave that week, but Holder was the one who orgnaised it all for me, so fair play to him for that.

    Hi Tanned one!

It’s the artist formally known as Prodigy.

How are you finding Piston Sheds then? I joined up, posted and then never returned. Far too complicated for me with far too many sub forums and topics to keep up with.

Fair play on getting a TF :) Hope you enjoy it, and hope it encourages you to get an MG6 when the going gets good again!

I guess no one has an inner female?

As for advice, well i couldn’t even begin to imagine what car would be best for you as I don’t know which convertables have isofix for a start! The only convertable I can think of is the predictable MX5.. ticks all the boxes. An older choice would be a MR2 (Or should that be Mrs2…)

I did imagine having boobs, but that hindered my thought proccess…

I would have a go if you like, though I think the subject wouldn’t be popular! I always frequent Chinese motoring websites, and I like to think that I know a bit about the cars over there, particulary MG! Though as I said, I can’t see it being popular!

I met today the team at Autocar today. My missus and I were in Teddington for the filming of an advert in the TV studios next door, so I emailed Jim to see if it was ok to come and say hello. Jim wasn’t in this week but he responded to the email and had liased with Matt Burt and agreed that we could come on the promise that I didn’t attack them!

They are a really great bunch, and very welcoming. Matt introduced me to the team, I looked at next weeks mag (the sections that are ready anyway) on the PC’s, got shown round the car park and sat in some of the long-termers. I was surprised at the state of the alloys on the Astra VXR.. Kerbed was not the word!

They are a very small team and Matt told me that most of the time they are out of the office driving cars, going to shows/conferences so I can see why the forum was a hassle that they didn’t need. Maybe it was handled poorly, but a lot of the staff are on Easter break this week so maybe that is why?

Anyway, the point is that they are extremely friendly and welcoming and I hope that they do see how grateful I am.

Well, I’ve joined. I hope others follow! My avatar is supposed to be batfink but I cannot adjust the picture size on the ipad!

Had a quick gander at PH and although clearly popular, it looks like a complete mess and impersonal although I see that TBH has joined there.

    Hi Rich, Prodigy here :)
