Hi Richard. A car is legally considered brand new when it is first registered, not when it was built. As long as the car complies with all legislation at time of registration, it doesn’t matter how old it is. It is very common for cars to sit around for months or even more than a year after being built before being registered.

Your new car warranty commenced on the day it was first registered, not when it was built, so you haven’t lost anything there. A dealer is not obliged to tell you when a car was built, although if you ask then they have to answer you honestly. They are also not required to disclose minor damage unless you ask about it.
