My vehicle is registered in the UK (Northern Ireland). I recently spent two weeks in the Republic of Ireland and the engine became damaged beyond repair. It will not get back on the road without a new engine, and it is not financially sensible to do so. The car is 400 miles away from my home, so it would be expensive to get it towed back simply for the purpose of scrapping it.

I have spoken to a garage in Cork who will have the car scrapped on my behalf.

My question is – if I have the car scrapped at an Irish ATF, and receive a certificate of destruction, will the UK authorities accepted this as having it properly disposed of? I know the ATFs have to meet EU standards, so I am hoping we are okay.

Thanks in advance for any help.
