Hi we bought a used Renault Trafic mid-June 2017, diesel, 2011 reg 76000 miles. It had 3-month warranty during which we had to get them to pay for the air con which they advertised but was not working. It’s been 7 months since purchased and done 6000 miles and been told engine has seized and needs a new one. I paid the deposit on credit card. Do I have any comeback as it’s been over 6 months? We feel the van of that age and mileage should have lasted longer!! Thanks, Jenny

Hi Jennifer. If the van is used for business purposes rather than purely personal purposes, you are not covered by the Consumer Rights Act. If that’s the case, you will need to contact a solicitor to try and help resolve your issue.

Under normal circumstances, yes you would expect an engine to last longer than 84,000 miles. But without knowing the background, it’s impossible to say more.
