Mmm… I doubt ‘honesty’ is ever high on Clarkson’s list of priorities when he’s doing a review. He’s not one to let facts get in the way of a good headline.

What a complete pansy!
On a serious note, this is typical of todays PR driven world: Take something heroic and remake it with a better budget and no-one will notice that it completely misses the point as long as it’s all shiny. And before you show the deed you drip feed your audience so that by the time you finally get to the actual even it has no impact whatsoever. In the old days it would have taken your breath away not only by its audacity but also because it would have been right out of the blue.
I’m afraid I’m just “meh” over this now. Seriously, was there not another spectacular unmade road somewhere where they could have equalled the daring? Ah, but then they wouldn’t have had the Pikes Peak ‘brand equity’ to splash all over their PR. I’m sure Mr L will drive spectacularly, but meh, just meh.
Given that owners will rarely call upon their 4x4ness and they provide nothing dramatic with regard to interior space above and beyond a regular car, as far as I can see cars of this kind exists merely to provide the owners with a large exterior proportion. It seems like a variation on the dick swinging game.
Can anyone explain the point of these kind of cars to me?

Keep promising myself I’m going to go one day… and one day I might just get round to it. Been the a couple of times on non race days and it’s fascinating, so it must be great when the race is on.
Interesting, if a little bulbous toward the front. Wonder how it passed side impact regulations…

He was, rather unjustly in my opinion, kicked off Autocar. A great example of the pisspoor moderating that was ultimately responsible for the forum’s demise. Sure, he could be a complete pain in the arse, seemed pathologically unable to admit to being wrong and often posted complete guff when it came to art in the mistaken belief that no-one else on the forum would know enough to rumble him. But… He was often amusing, clearly intelligent and well read, certainly brought something quite unique to the debate, was mostly harmless and was all the more interesting for his contradictions. He then gets relentlessly goaded by the forum’s persistently returning troll (masquerading as two posters and subsequently turning up in the PistonHeads Autocar thread, also as two posters). The moderators let this continue for weeks and then, when they finally took action, banned LA along with the troll. I think that’s what the kids call a ‘Fail!’
Dang, did I miss the first flare up! Well, at least it wasn’t me. Lol!
