Geely has unveiled the Monjaro EM-i, a new large hybrid SUV that has its international launch scheduled for later this month.

The Monjaro EM-i is described as Geely’s first hybrid D-segment SUV developed for global markets. It will initially launch in Egypt before being introduced to other countries, although Geely has not yet confirmed whether the new model will be sold in the UK.

Should it come here, the Monjaro would become one of the larger models in Geely’s growing range, sitting above the EX5 electric SUV and Starray EM-i plug-in hybrid already offered to British buyers. The new SUV is based on Geely’s ‘GEA Evo’ underpinnings, it also introduces electric all-wheel drive to Geely’s range.

Power comes from the manufacturer’s ‘EM-i’ hybrid system, although Geely hasn’t yet released useful technical details such as engine and electric motor outputs, battery capacity, electric range or fuel economy. The company describes it as a ‘Super Hybrid’, suggesting the Monjaro could use similar technology to the Starray EM-i, but specifications for individual markets have yet to be announced.

Inside, the Monjaro will feature Geely’s ‘Flyme Auto’ infotainment system, along with the manufacturer’s latest voice assistant technology. Beyond that, Geely hasn’t provided much information about the cabin, equipment levels or dimensions, other than promising a spacious interior.

Safety equipment will include Geely’s latest driver assistance systems and its ‘Shendun’ battery protection technology, while the new electric all-wheel-drive system should distinguish the Monjaro from the front-wheel-drive Starray EM-i.

The Geely Monjaro EM-i will make its international debut in Egypt in late August, with other markets following afterwards.

There is currently no confirmation that the Monjaro EM-i will be launched in the UK, and UK pricing and specifications have therefore not been announced.
