About Denza
Denza is still a new name in the UK, but it comes from a company that is already becoming very familiar. It’s BYD’s luxury brand, sitting above the regular BYD range in much the same way that Lexus sits above Toyota or Audi sits above Volkswagen. For buyers who are only just getting used to BYD itself, that may take a little while to sink in.
The idea behind Denza is fairly easy to understand. BYD is already selling a growing range of electric and plug-in hybrid cars in the UK, while Denza is intended to give the group a more upmarket offering. The first models shown for Europe include the Z9GT, a large high-performance estate, and the D9, a large plug-in hybrid people carrier. Both are a long way from the cheaper end of the new car market.
For UK buyers, Denza will probably need to prove two things at once. First, that the cars feel genuinely more luxurious than regular BYD models. Second, that the brand can earn trust against established premium names that people already know. That will not happen overnight, especially when many buyers are still learning what BYD itself stands for.
Even so, Denza is worth watching because it shows how quickly Chinese car companies are moving beyond value-led EVs and into more expensive parts of the market. This page brings together all of our Denza coverage in one place, including Expert Ratings, reviews, news and feature articles, so you can keep track of the brand’s UK launch and see how it develops.
