Mazda has announced changes to its Mazda 3 range, dropping the saloon body style and more powerful engine option while introducing a new ‘Homura Plus‘ trim level.
Arriving in UK showrooms before the end of 2026, the updated Mazda 3 will be sold exclusively as a five-door hatchback, bringing an end to the saloon version that has been available since the current generation launched in 2019.
All versions will now use Mazda’s 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol engine, producing 140hp and featuring mild-hybrid technology. This means the more powerful 186hp e-Skyactiv X engine will soon no longer available.
New Homura Plus trim and safety upgrades
The updated Mazda 3 is available in six trim levels: Prime-Line, Centre-Line, Homura, Exclusive-Line, the new Homura Plus and Takumi.
The Homura Plus sits above the existing Homura and adds black leather upholstery, electrically adjustable seats, a 12-speaker Bose sound system and a surround view parking camera. It also features additional exterior LED lighting and revised interior trim.
Safety equipment has been upgraded across the range, with improvements to automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assistance and blind-spot monitoring. A driver monitoring system, which checks for signs of distraction or tiredness, is now standard on every model.
Elsewhere, the Exclusive-Line gains revised interior trim and additional driver’s seat adjustment, while Aero Grey joins the exterior colour options.
The updated Mazda3 will be offered with manual and automatic gearboxes, depending on trim level. Prime-Line and Centre-Line are not available with an automatic transmission.
UK pricing and availability
The 2027 Mazda3 is due to arrive in the UK before the end of 2026, with Mazda confirming that prices will remain unchanged from the outgoing model-year range.
Full pricing for the revised line-up, including the new Homura Plus, has yet to be announced.
The Mazda 3 range currently holds a New Car Expert Rating of C with a score of 63%. It gets good grades for its media review scores, safety rating and low CO2 emissions, but its reliabilty record is only average and running costs are high.
