About Caterham

Caterham is one of the more unusual car brands we cover. It’s not trying to make family cars, electric SUVs or anything that could sensibly be described as everyday transport. The company’s reputation is built around the Seven, a tiny, lightweight sports car that traces its roots back to the original Lotus Seven from the 1960s.

This makes Caterham difficult to compare with most other brands. A Seven is deliberately basic, exposed and impractical by modern standards, but that’s also the point. It’s built for people who want a very direct driving experience, where light weight and simple engineering matter more than touchscreens, sound insulation or luggage space.

In the UK, Caterham remains a niche choice for enthusiasts, track-day drivers and people who want something they can use more as a hobby than as a normal car. Some versions can be bought factory-built, while others appeal to buyers who like the idea of building a car themselves. Either way, it is a long way from the usual new-car buying decision.

That is also why we do not currently publish Expert Ratings for Caterham models. Our Expert Ratings are designed to compare ownership factors such as safety, reliability, running costs, practicality, warranty cover and overall suitability for everyday use. Caterham models are not really bought for those reasons, so forcing them into the same framework would not tell readers much.

This page brings together all of our Caterham coverage in one place, including reviews, news and feature articles, so you can follow the brand’s latest developments and find the limited Caterham content we carry.
