Toyota is marking 60 years of the Corolla with a new limited-edition version of its British-built hatchback, featuring exclusive exterior colours and commemorative details.
The Corolla name first appeared in 1966, and Toyota says more than 57 million examples have since been sold worldwide across 12 generations. The current Corolla Hatchback is built at Toyota’s Burnaston plant in Derbyshire, making the anniversary edition particularly relevant to British buyers.
The Corolla ’60th Anniversary’ will be available in limited numbers when UK orders open in October.
Exclusive colours and trim
The special edition is distinguished by a new blue metallic exterior paint finish, combined with a black roof and window surrounds.
It also receives unique 17-inch alloy wheels, matt silver detailing for the front bumper and side sills, darker trim around the fog lights and rear bumper, and some 60th Anniversary decals towards the bottom of the rear doors.
Changes inside are similarly restrained, with anniversary-branded matt silver scuff plates and matching detailing on the carpet mats.
Otherwise, the specification is largely familiar from the regular Corolla. Standard equipment includes a 12-inch digital instrument display and 10.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, along with Toyota’s suite of driver assistance systems.
Hybrid power as standard
While the wider Corolla Hatchback and Touring Sports ranges offer a choice of 1.8- and 2.0-litre hybrid powertrains, the ’60th Anniversary’ edition is exclusively available with the 1.8-litre hybrid.
This produces 138hp and uses Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid system, with an automatic transmission as standard.
There are no mechanical changes specifically for the anniversary model, with the limited edition instead focusing on its cosmetic upgrades and additional detailing.
Pricing and availability
The Toyota Corolla ’60th Anniversary’ hatchback will be available to order from UK Toyota dealerships in October, although only a limited number will be offered.
Toyota has not yet announced pricing for this special edition, but says that further details will be arriving shortly. The Toyota Corolla currently holds a New Car Expert Rating of B with a score of 68%.
