BMW has unveiled the iX3 ‘M60 xDrive‘, a new high-performance version of its electric SUV with more than 600hp, upgraded suspension and a claimed driving range of up to 468 miles.

The new M60 sits at the top of the iX3 range as an M Performance model, sitting above the iX3 ’40’, ’40 xDrive’ and ’50 xDrive’ versions already on sale.

Two electric motors – one powering each axle – produce a combined 612hp, giving the M60 four-wheel drive and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 3.9 seconds. Top speed is 149mph.

Beyond the additional power, BMW has revised the suspension and steering to give the M60 more responsive handling. Adaptive suspension with electronically controlled dampers comes as standard, alongside variable-ratio steering (changes the steering sensitivity depending on vehicle speed or how far you turn the wheel), upgraded brakes and an electronically controlled rear differential to improve traction when cornering.

There are also two dedicated driving modes, ‘M Sport’ and ‘M Sport Plus’, which adjust the responses of the electric motors, suspension and steering.

Up to 468 miles of electric range

The M60 uses a 109kWh battery, providing a claimed driving range of up to 468 miles on a full charge. BMW says this is a provisional figure, subject to final confirmation.

Its 800-volt electrical system supports DC rapid charging at up to 400kW, with BMW claiming that up to 211 miles of range can be added in ten minutes under suitable conditions. Unlike some less powerful iX3 versions, the M60 also comes with 22kW AC charging as standard.

Sportier looks and interior

The M60 gets distinctive yellow-tinted front lighting inspired by BMW’s motorsport models, along with illuminated grille detailing, revised exterior trim and a rear roof spoiler. Standard equipment includes 21-inch alloy wheels, with 22-inch designs available as an option.

Inside, the M60 features electrically adjustable sports seats with massage functionality, an M steering wheel and revised digital instrument graphics.

Like the rest of the iX3 range, this performance model cones with BMW’s Panoramic iDrive infotainment layout, combining a 18-inch central touchscreen with information projected across the lower windscreen. A Harman Kardon sound system is also included as standard.

UK availability

Orders for the BMW iX3 ‘M60 xDrive’ will open at the end of January 2027, with production beginning at BMW’s new Debrecen factory in Hungary during the spring. UK pricing and the first customer delivery date have yet to be announced, with those details sure to follow in the coming months.

The BMW iX3 holds an excellent New Car Expert Rating of A, with a score of 80%. It scores top marks for its media review scores, Euro NCAP safety rating and zero tailpipe emissions. However, its overall running costs are only average and BMW’s new car warranty falls short of the best in the market.
