Jaguar has confirmed that its new Type 01 electric grand tourer will arrive in the UK next year, with orders opening in early 2027 and first customer deliveries expected later in the year.
The new four-door GT represents a significant turning point for Jaguar, which is attempting to reinvent itself as an all-electric luxury manufacturer following the discontinuation of its previous model range.
Jaguar officially presented the Type 01 in New York this week, following months of development announcements and public appearances by camouflaged prototypes. The launch included displays across the city and an appearance by Jaguar Formula E driver António Félix da Costa, who drove the car to the premiere venue.
The Type 01 follows the striking Type 00 concept unveiled in 2024 and introduces a radically different design direction for Jaguar. Its low roofline, unusually long bonnet and angular bodywork are a significant departure from the company’s previous models.
The production car is built on a dedicated electric platform called ‘Jaguar Electric Architecture’ (JEA). It features 23-inch alloy wheels, concealed door handles and active aerodynamic components, including a three-stage rear spoiler. Jaguar quotes a low drag coefficient of 0.23 (for comparison, the curvy Mercedes-Benz EQS saloon has a drag coefficient of 0.20), making it the most aerodynamic production model in the company’s history.

More than 1,000hp and up to 450 miles of range
The Type 01 uses three electric motors producing up to 1,016hp. Power is distributed between all four wheels, with torque vectoring adjusting how much power reaches individual wheels to improve handling and traction.
Jaguar claims a 0-62mph time of 3.2 seconds, making this the most powerful road-going model the company has produced.
The car also features air suspension, adaptive dampers and four-wheel steering, designed to balance ride comfort with responsive handling. Jaguar says its Formula E racing programme contributed to the development of the electric powertrain.
A 118kWh usable battery provides an estimated battery range of up to 450 miles, although the figure remains subject to final certification. Its 850-volt electrical system supports DC rapid charging at up to 350kW, with Jaguar claiming a 10% to 80% charge can take as little as 22 minutes. Under suitable conditions, the brand adds that it can also add up to 200 miles of range in around 13 minutes.
A new approach to luxury
The Type 01 has a four-seat interior, with a central structure running the length of the cabin. A 24-inch OLED display provides the driver with instruments and infotainment functions, while a smaller seven-inch touchscreen sits between the front seats for commonly used controls.
Other technology includes a digital rear-view display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected navigation and a voice assistant. An elaborate Meridian audio system incorporates a full-width soundbar and seats that can transmit vibrations in time with music.
Buyers will have a choice of leather and non-leather upholstery, alongside a selection of exterior colours and finishes.

The future of Jaguar rests on Type 01
The Type 01 is arguably the most important new Jaguar in decades. The company discontinued its previous model range as part of its transition, leaving it without a replacement for familiar models such as the XE, XF and F-Pace.
Rather than competing directly with established premium manufacturers such as BMW, Audi and Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar is moving towards a smaller-volume, more expensive segment of the market.
The Type 01 will therefore be the first significant test of whether this strategy can attract a new customer base. Jaguar has committed to an all-electric future even as Land Rover continues to offer petrol, diesel and hybrid powertrains.
JLR says the launch forms part of a wider strategy to establish clearer differences between its Jaguar, Range Rover, Defender and Discovery brands. The company is also placing greater emphasis on North America as a growth market.
The Type 01 will be manufactured in Britain, with production beginning at JLR’s Solihull factory in 2027. Its electric motors and battery packs will be produced in Wolverhampton, while pressed body panels will come from Halewood in Merseyside.
JLR says nearly 9,000 employees at Solihull have been retrained to work on electric vehicles, with another 1,500 receiving training elsewhere in the West Midlands.
UK prices and availability
The Jaguar Type 01 will be available to order in early 2027, with the first customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
Jaguar’s UK website lists the standard Type 01 from £130k on the road, while the more extensively specified ‘Design Vision’ version starts at £145k.
