About McLaren

McLaren is one of Britain’s best-known performance car names, with its road cars built in Woking, Surrey. It operates at the specialist end of the market, producing supercars and occasional limited-run hypercars rather than trying to cover the wider range of luxury saloons and SUVs offered by larger premium brands.

The cars tend to follow a familiar McLaren formula: low weight, mid-mounted engines, dramatic performance and a strong focus on how the car responds to the driver. Some models offer more luggage space or greater comfort than others, but even the most usable McLaren remains an expensive two-seat performance car with the compromises that brings.

This can make the Expert Ratings look much less flattering than the road-test reviews. McLarens are usually praised highly for their performance and handling, but our ratings also consider insurance, fuel use, emissions, warranty cover, reliability and other parts of ownership. Those costs and uncertainties can pull the overall result down sharply, even when reviewers think the car itself is exceptional.

Anyone seriously considering a McLaren is unlikely to be choosing on practicality or value alone. Even so, servicing, warranty protection, depreciation and access to specialist support deserve careful attention when so much money is involved. This page brings together all of our McLaren coverage in one place, including Expert Ratings, reviews, news and feature articles, so you can look beyond the performance figures and understand more about the cars as ownership propositions.
