The ten best and worst new cars on sale in the UK

The ten best new cars

Unsurprisingly, the top ten cars here are predominantly luxury and/or performance models, and include some of the most expensive new cars on sale. They represent the very best design, engineering and creativity that their respective manufacturers can produce.

The top two cars are British, courtesy of McLaren and Rolls-Royce, while Porsche contributes three models for Germany. Italy is represented by one Alfa and two Ferraris, while Japan and France have one entry each, thanks to the Toyota GR Yaris and the Alpine A110.

The ten worst new cars

At the other end of the scale, the Nissan e-NV200 Combi takes the wooden spoon for the lowest-rated new car on sale as of March 2022. It’s due for extinction soon, to be replaced by an all-new model called the Townstar.

Smart doesn’t exactly live up to its name right now. It only produces two models (although an all-new SUV is expected to arrive later this year), and they’re both in the bottom ten. MG also has two cars in this list – although they are two of the cheapest new cars on sale, which means that they are still reasonably competitive with similar, but more expensive, cars.

Most of these ten models have been on sale for a number of years, and didn’t exactly impress the reviewers when they were brand new, so its not surprising that their scores have only fallen as they’ve aged.

From a national point of view, the bottom ten models consist of two cars from Japan (Nissan and Subaru), two from Germany (the two Smarts), two from Italy (Abarth and Fiat), two from the UK (the two MGs) and two from the USA (Ford and Jeep).

All scores correct as of 1 March 2022. Ratings are updated on a regular basis, so for live Expert Rating scores click here.
