About BYD
BYD is still a fairly new name in the UK, but the company behind it is already one of the world’s biggest players in electric cars. It is also a major battery manufacturer, which gives it technical knowledge that many car brands have had to buy in from elsewhere.
The brand arrived in the UK in 2023 with electric models such as the Atto 3, Dolphin and Seal. Since then, the range has grown quickly to include small cars, family SUVs, saloons and estates, with plug-in hybrid models like the Seal U and Sealion 5 sitting alongside the fully electric cars.
For many people, BYD will stand out for practical reasons. The cars tend to come with plenty of equipment, the pricing is competitive, and the company’s battery background gives buyers something more concrete to weigh up than just a new badge and a long features list. The bigger questions are around the things that only become clearer over time, such as dealer support, software, resale values and the overall ownership experience.
BYD is already becoming a familiar sight on British roads, and it is clearly not here as a short-term experiment. This page brings together all of our BYD coverage in one place, including Expert Ratings, reviews, news and feature articles, so you can compare the range and see how the brand is developing in the UK.
