Summary
The Peugeot 3008 was a medium-sized SUV/crossover, which was launched onto the UK market in 2017. It was discontinued in late 2023 ahead of an all-new model arriving in early 2024.
The 3008 received plenty of positive reviews, with scores ranging from good to outstanding. It was the highest-ranked medium-sized SUV/crossover in our Expert Ratings index for more than two years, although it eventually fell behind newer rivals.
The Peugeot 3008 won numerous awards both in the UK and overseas. It was particularly praised for its design, comfort, practicality and driving dynamics. More recent reviews were not quite as favourable as those when the model was new, as the Peugeot i-Cockpit design is not to everyone’s taste and some newer rivals were considered better performers.
An updated model arrived in the UK in early 2021, which was a facelift of the existing car rather than an all-new model.
There is a question mark over the 3008’s reliability, however. In a 2021, What Car? rated the Peugeot 3008 diesel 20th in its list of the most unreliable new cars on sale. This was backed up in the same survey for 2022, where the 3008 diesel was ranked dead last in the family SUV category.
An all-new Peugeot 3008 was unveiled in September 2023 – initially only as an electric e-3008 version, which arrived in the UK in Spring 2024. However, hybrid versions are expected to be announced as well.
As of May 2024, the Peugeot 3008 holds a Used Car Expert Rating of B, with a score of 67%. It scores highly for having low average CO2 emissions (thanks to the plug-in hybrid model), while running costs are decent. Reliability is about average for the new car market, but the safety rating has expired.

“It’s fair to say that the ‘anthrompometric’ seating position and i-cockpit of the 3008 take a bit of getting used to. You look over the small steering wheel, not through it. The seats initially feel a bit small and hard. But give it 500 miles and it makes almost every other car feel like they came out of the stone-age. It’s brilliant.”

Notes on safety rating
The Peugeot 3008 was originally crash tested by Euro NCAP back in 2016 and awarded a five-star rating. However, this rating expired in January 2023 and is no longer valid as the car no longer meets the standards required for such a rating. This is normal practice, as Euro NCAP reviews its ratings on most cars annually with most ratings expiring after about six or seven years.
However, if you are comparing a used Peugeot 3008 to vehicles of similar age, whose ratings will have probably also expired, its safety rating score is still useful.

Reliability score
All data based on MotorEasy average workshop costs for extended car warranty claims
As of February 2024, the Peugeot 3008 has a reliability score that’s just above average, according to data provided exclusively for us using new and used car warranty claim reports from our partner, MotorEasy. This score applies to both the current 3008 as well as previous models.
The good news is that the 3008 has proven to be reasonable cheap to repair when things do go wrong. Braking system problems are the most commonly reported fault, but the average report bill is only £200. At the other end of the scale, gearbox problems have been the most expensive, with an average repair cost of £1,300.
If you’re looking at buying a used Peugeot 3008, make sure that any used car warranty you purchase covers all of the potential problem areas listed above.

The Peugeot 3008 should be a relatively affordable car to own and run, according to whole-life cost data provided exclusively to The Car Expert by our technical partner, Clear Vehicle Data.
We don’t have independently verified fuel consumption data for the petrol and diesel models, but the CO2 levels (which are linked closely to fuel consumption) are good. The plug-in hybrid looks great on paper, but that’s due to the woeful EU/UK goverment lab tests that are completely useless at measuring a plug-in hybrid…
The plug-in hybrid battery range looks woeful, but it’s fairly average for this sort of car. A fully electric car of similar size, by comparison, will usually have about 250-300 miles of range.
Insurance costs are average, however servicing and maintenance costs over the first five years should be excellent.
