Summary
The BMW X5 is a mid-sized diesel mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid SUV that is set to arrive in the UK in Spring 2027. It is part of the latest fifth-generation X5 range which also includes electric iX5 model options. We cover those battery-powered variants separately.
The X5 is part of BMW’s Neue Klasse programme, following on from the latest BMW 3 Series. While the SUV comes with similar design elements and tech as its Neue Klasse siblings, the iX5 is built on the same underpinnings as the previous X5 generation it replaces, instead of a dedicated electric car platform.
Strictly a five-seater, with no option to spec extra third row seating like prior X5 models, the SUV has a longer length between the front and back wheels when compared to the prior generation to increase interior legroom. A petrol mild-hybrid model is part of the European model range, but BMW doesn’t plan to offer this powertrain in the UK due to British tax incentives and high buyer demand for hybrid SUVs.
As of the time of writing, there aren’t any X5 reviews published by the British motoring media. Once a collection of reviews have been published closer to the SUV’s arrival in early 2027, and when we have collected running cost estimations for the model, we will update this page with an Expert Rating score.
